Individual Volunteer Opportunities
When students connect with caring adults who share real-life experiences, they begin to see possibilities they may have never imagined. These meaningful interactions help students envision their own paths forward and make informed, intentional choices about their futures.
As an individual volunteer, you’ll bring JA programs to life by showing students how classroom concepts apply in the real world. Through engaging, hands-on activities, you’ll guide them as they explore ideas, test new skills, and build the confidence to take on what’s next.

As an individual volunteer, you can participate as a:
- JA BizTown Volunteer: At the JANJ Education Center in Edison, NJ, volunteers support a small group of students as they navigate their roles and responsibilities within one of fourteen simulated businesses in our simulated community.
- JA Career Speaker Series: Help students discover new careers and career paths by participating in a JA-hosted school event. Volunteers discuss their careers and the journey they took to get there with students.
- JA Finance Park Volunteer: At the JANJ Education Center in Edison, NJ, volunteers spend the day participating in a JA Finance Park simulation, where they assist a small group of students in creating a personal financial plan.
- Women’s Future Leadership Forum: Volunteers serve as mentors and role models at one of our Women’s Future Leadership Forum events, connecting with high school students through hands-on activities, panel discussions, and work sessions designed to build confidence, career awareness, and leadership skills in the next generation of women.
JANJ Background Check Policy.
Individual volunteers are an important part of Junior Achievement of New Jersey’s mission to inspire and prepare young people for success. Before registering for a volunteer opportunity, please ensure you complete the following steps:
All individual volunteers must have a background check completed within the past two years.
If your employer has completed a qualifying background check within the last two years, they may provide a letter confirming it included Social Security number verification, a national criminal database search, state records, and the sex offender registry, and that there is no information that would prevent you from serving as a JA volunteer. A copy of the background check is not required.
If you do not have a qualifying background check, you will complete one through Universal Background Screening. The screening fee is $35.25 and is paid through our secure Qgiv form. After payment is received, you will receive an email invitation to begin the screening process.
Once your background check has been approved, you’ll recieve an email from Jamie Campbell where you can browse and sign up for available volunteer opportunities that fit your schedule and interests.
